When I heard Vogue Italia was launching an event in Dubai I was thrilled! As an Italian myself, I was counting down the days until the massive event, excited to mingle with some fellow Italian fashionistas. Little did I know I would bump into some of Italy’s highest, most prestige “crème de la crème” fashion icons while I was there…was truly an evening to remember!
So finally October 10th had arrived, and for the very first time ever, Vogue Italia graced Dubai with their eloquent presence and brought ‘the magic of Vogue’ to the Middle East. Emaar Properties as well as Vogue Italia themselves, organized the event. The event took place for one day only at the Dubai Mall, but it was a complete evening full of events and line-ups. Over 250 global brands participated in the Vogue Italia Fashion Dubai Experience highlighting their new collections, including Versace, Armani, Valentino, Chanel, Dior, Elie Saab, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy and Dolce & Gabbana.
At the start of the event, some great catwalk shows were featured which included eight emerging regional and international designers. In addition, there were some first-class exhibitions on displayed for all to see, and there were even many celebrity appearances! I personally was graced with the honourable presence of seeing Mrs. Franca Sozzani, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Italia, Donatella Versace (in the flesh!) and also Roberto Cavalli! Needless to say, I was not expecting these fashion icons to be at this event…so it was an extra exhilarating surprise to me! Other fashion elites that were at the event were:
- Fashion Designers: Silvia Fendi, Riccardo Tisci, Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared, Remo Ruffini, and Philipp Plein.
- Supermodels: Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova, Eva Riccobono and Afef Jnifen
- French Actress: Clotilde Marie Pascale Courau
- Film Celebrities: Sabrina Ouzani and Amelle Chahbi
- Fashion Blogger: Chiara Ferragni from ‘The Blonde Salad’
- American Celebrity: Solange Knowles
Aside from all these wonderful aspects of the event, there was yet something even greater: the Vogue Italia Dubai Experience raised Dhs5 million for Dubai Cares, the charity founded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to promote the primary education of children in underprivileged communities globally. Now if that’s not just absolutely “hot and in style” then I don’t know what is! So I commend such a great event, which in the end made millions for underprivileged children!
The Vogue Italia Fashion Dubai Experience was a superb event and I urge all of you to attend next year! I can’t wait to see what they have to offer next time and who I may just bump into… ; )
