The role:

Fashion and Beauty Director, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia (plus all associated supplements, brand extensions and digital products – both existing and future).

Summary of the job:
Responsible for all fashion and beauty content.

Key responsibilities:
• Compiling all still life and shopping pages to accurately reflect products, brand availability and pricing across the GCC; responding to and reflecting the region’s tastes and aesthetic.
• Maintaining and building on Harper’s Bazaar Arabia’s reputation for publishing exclusive, first-to-market content.
• Producing and styling cover shoots with international celebrities, to strict budgets and advertiser requirements.
• Writing and editing accurate and engaging copy, displaying journalistic discipline and rigour.
• To understand and work within the commercial realities of publishing in the Middle East.
• Creating compelling personal style features showcasing GCC women in an imaginative, newsworthy and inspiring light.
• Planning and editing content syndicated from Harper’s Bazaar’s international network, to ensure local relevancy (covering everything from product availability and pricing, to experts quoted in print).
Skills required:
• Ability to work well under pressure and be able to think creatively.
• Fully competent in InDesign.
• Sensitivity to the luxury market and the specific requirements presented by this region.
• Accuracy and efficiency.
• Experienced at styling celebrities, models and real women.

Desired profile:
The successful candidate will have over five years’ experience as a Fashion Editor on an international luxury title. Crucially, they must be flexible and have a can-do, positive attitude. Ideally the successful candidate will also have experience editing fashion supplements and will be able to create and run a flatplan, overseeing the process from concept to production.
As part of a small team, this role has far reaching responsibilities ranging from conducting interviews, compiling advertorials (often at short notice) and shopping pages, to styling cover shoots. Candidates should appreciate that most of the work is office-bound, whilst styling fashion and cover shoots is on a month-by-month basis.

Additional information:
Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, the Fashion and Beauty Director manages one Fashion and Beauty Assistant, alongside Fashion and Beauty interns. Please be aware that out of hours work is expected.
