A spectacular eighth season from Fashion Forward Dubai this year. It took place from the 20th to 23rd of October at the daunting Dubai Design District and was simply suburb. From the light and wonderful ambience of people to the runway collections to the great showcases we can’t decide on what we loved most.
We’ll start with a quick overview of what FFWD is all about. It’s a definitive platform driving the Middle East’s fashion through strength, inspiration, growth and talent. Main traditional components of FFWD not only include the typical yet stunning runway shows that take place between four halls but the event also consists of presentations which guests can view collections up close. Then there is the showcase which includes talented jewelry and accessory designers displaying their creations. In addition to this, there are inspiring d3 fashion talks from global industry experts, networking and social events, a fashion village which includes an array of cafes, bars and sponsor zones and last but not least, closing each day with an after party. If that’s not a complete full-day to keep you busy, then I don’t know what is!
The event had tons of sponsors and partners this year who all brought Fashion Forward Dubai together. Baume & Mercier had a social media photo shoot giving guests a chance to win their incredible and stylish watches. They also hosted great workshops that explored styling. Pepsi had it’s own lounge serving some of their awesome specialty drinks. The main sponsor of course was d3 (Dubai Design District) and Samsung which brought innovation whilst promoting their Galaxy S7 edge. They also collaborated with d3 as EpicXSamsung, which promoted the empowerment program that looked at business development challenges in depth. Other great sponsors included Dubai Design & Fashion Council, Splash, Tastemakers, MAC, Evian, L’oreal, W Dubai, Pandora, Absolut Elyx, Eideal, Galeries Lafiyette, WGSN, DA, UAL, Things/People, FAD, Haya, The New York Times, Grazia, MBC, nowfashion.com, Careem and last but not least, Brag.
The d3 fashion talks were truly inspirational as experts lead some important industry discussions. Discussions varied from trend forecasting by WGSN to fashion entrepreneurship to manufacturing & sourcing to finding design inspirations. We’ve all learnt a great deal from all the knowledgeable speakers.
Now we get to the best part of all, the fashion collections! Not only were the models beautifully dressed in such lovely pieces but the guests amped up the atmosphere with their great sense of style. There were many designers that showcased their collections this year. Below are some of our favorite collections seen:
EZRA: What a talented designer! This year his collection was dedicated to the all the artisans who were alongside him for the past 12 years. The main highlight that differentiates his works from others is his beautiful detailing of weaves and intricate works. A standing ovation, well deserved! Hats off to you, EZRA.
Kristina Fidelskaya: It was all about adding an edgy aspect as her collection this year contrasted femininity and hints of masculinity. From peachy chiffon and lace to off-white, gold and bronze bombers to stunning biker jackets, she has certainly achieved her vision this season.
Hussein Bazaza: A grungy collection from Bazaza this season as he combined his signature lace techniques but this time with a twist of using traditional mens fabrics. The collection definitely emitted a one-of-a kind fairy tale.
